In the bleak midwinter...

Not yesterday, not the north coast but still pretty mid-winter.

Went for a quick dip at east yesterday after being inspired by Stuarty that windy messy waves, snow on the ground and it being the shortest day of the year are not valid excuses not to go surfing. Glad I did head out too...

Section beater

Took a few photos before the University's minicomp at East last Wednesday. Some nice waves last week but I was dosed with the cold till about Friday when I got a short but very (very very) sweet sunset session on the longboard. Very little in the way of waves forecasted for the next wee while so I made the best of a nice evening tonight and paddled out in 2ft of the worst onshore dribble you'll be likely to see. Was still better than enjoying the end of daylight from my desk though...

Spent yesterday arvo doing fieldwork on East whilst keeping an eye on John and co enjoying the small surf and great weather. I too soon exchanged ranging poles for the quad but found it tough going to catch anything as the tide pushed and the waves got increasingly messy. Props to the young guy who was having a ball on the longboard though!

Didn't expect to see any of the competition this weekend but worked out that I was able to make it up for around 1030 this morning. Serious winds were blowing here on the north coast last night so todays clean swell and offshore winds came as a welcome surprise for the finals. Congratulations to everyone involved especially the ISA and Causeway coast surf club for running a great contest. Stay posted for more shots in the next few days...
